Shift Manager

Salary: £28,000-32,000 per annum

Location: Sneyd Hill (ST6 2DZ)

Hours of work: 1:00pm-10:00pm Monday to Friday

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Shift Manager to join the team at our Sneyd Hill site. You will be managing a team of 15 operatives over 2 key areas of the business, to ensure all procedures and compliances are followed.

Key Duties:

  • Manage all the duties of Reception, Stores and Dispatch (RSD) and Trans Frontier Shipment (TFS) operatives.
  • Challenge poor practices and ensure compliance with company systems and procedures.
  • Train and mentor operatives in areas of responsibility.
  • Increase productivity, including maximising vehicle movements and minimising tip times on the top yard. Increasing the number of loads prepped and dispatched from the TFS department.
  • Ensure all vehicles are being tipped and loaded in a safe compliant manner.
  • Maintaining TFS packaging standards.
  • Booking of TFS outgoing loads and the completion of the paperwork ready for collection.
  • Liaise with other managers to ensure all work on site is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the completion of pre-use FLT checks by operatives.
  • Ensure waste is being appropriately stored in line with Sector Guidance Note 5.06, the sites Environmental Permit and to HSG51
  • Arrange for breakdown maintenance and servicing of FLT.
  • Liaise with operations manager / relevant others in the writing and review of Risk Assessments, Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Deal with all absenteeism and disciplinary issues as per company guidelines.
  • Completion of low-risk maintenance activities so far as reasonably practicable and safe to do so.
  • Actively manage housekeeping standards in operational area.
  • Ensure the Permit to Work system is always being followed.
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety driven environment – reporting near misses on activ and rectifying any potential concerns for Health and Safety readily.
  • Any other activities or tasks deemed appropriate and necessary

Critical Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Prior to Employment

  • Experience of working in the waste industry is desirable, however we understand this is a niche industry and any production background would be advantageous.
  • Counterbalance FLT license.
  • IOSH Managing Safely is desirable.
  • SAP experience is desirable.
  • A natural leader of people and processes.
  • Has the ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Communicates well at all levels including executive level.
  • Makes decisions based on data, information and evidence.
  • Able to drive team performance and improve functional knowledge of the team through coaching and sharing knowledge/skills and experiences.
