Transport Scheduler

Objective of the Role

The Transport Scheduler is integral to ensuring efficient and timely logistics operations within the depot.

Main Duties

- Daily Scheduling: Plan and manage the schedules for drivers, optimising routes for efficiency, fuel savings, and customer satisfaction.

- Communication: Act as the main point of contact for drivers, providing them with schedules, updates, and addressing any route changes or delays.

- Resource Allocation: Coordinate with the depot team to ensure vehicles are adequately staffed and equipped for scheduled routes.

- Data Management: Ensure driver timesheets are submitted accurately and assist with card/unit downloads.

- Customer Liaison: Communicate with customers to confirm delivery and collection details, adjusting schedules as necessary.

- Reporting: Update key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide data for regular reports on delivery performance, cost metrics, and scheduling efficiency.

- Stock Management: Coordinate with the depot team for inventory needs, including ADR compliance, PPE, and necessary supplies.

- Issue Resolution: Collaborate with the Transport Manager to address issues such as vehicle breakdowns or scheduling conflicts and arrange alternative solutions.

- Compliance: Ensure that all scheduling aligns with safety, legal, and company policies, including driver hours and vehicle maintenance requirements.

Generic Duties

Competencies & Personal Specification

- Experience in transport scheduling or a related logistics role.

- Relevant Certifications: ADR awareness, CPC, or equivalent are beneficial.

- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with SAP is advantageous.

- Organisational Abilities: Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple tasks.

- Communication Skills: Clear and effective communicator, able to liaise with both drivers and customers.
