The newly wed Jacqui Allen (formerly Slack) took to the Rotorua trails in New Zealand to compete in the 15th XTERRA Rotorua Festival.  RED sponsored Jacqui finished the 38km course Female Individual Long Course event in FIRST place!

This was Jacqui’s first offroad triathlon since November 2016 where she took part in the ITU World Cross Championships.  Jacqui said before the event “I’m very excited to race Xterra New Zealand next weekend where I will join 3 of our b&jracing athletes to take on one of the best races in the world”.  The event did not disappoint, and all of her hardwork and training paid off with a first place finish, which was over 2 minutes quicker than the runner up.

The event started with a 1km open water swim in the Blue Lake.  Jacqui finished the first section close behind Rebecca Clark with a time of 12 minutes and 22 seconds.

The second stage of the triathlon was a tough 26km mountain bike course.  The terrain has steep climbs and descents around single tracks and logging roads.  Jacqui pulled ahead into first place after 1km into the ride, and finished with a time for the second stage of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 34 seconds.

The final stage of the event was a 11km trail run. The course is a mixture of flat, rolling hills, and stairs, through forest and alongside the Blue Lake.  After conserving energy in the first lap, she pushed hard in the final 4km to maintain her lead.  Jacqui completed the third section in 52 minutes and 2 seconds to finish in FIRST place overall.

Jacqui completed the race in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 58 seconds to take first place and be crowned XTERRA New Zealand Female Champion.  She finished the course over 2 minutes quicker than runner up, Hannah Wells.

This is a fantastic result for Jacqui Allen!  A huge congratulations from RED!
