If your premises is in England and responsible for producing more than 500kgs of hazardous waste per year, you must register as a hazardous waste producer and obtain a premises code to be used on consignment notes.  From 1st April 2016 these two aspects of the hazardous waste regulations will change.

There will no longer be a requirement for hazardous waste producers to register their premises with the environment agency and the format of the unique consignment note code will change.

Due to the fact that premises registration will no longer be required as of 1st April, the change of format to the consignment note code will apply regardless of the amount of hazardous waste produced, handled or stored.

The first six characters of your consignment note code will change from the premises registration number to the first six letters or numbers of your business name however the second set of characters will continue to be five letters or numbers of your choosing.

These changes will only apply to businesses in England and guidance will be available from www.gov.uk as of 1st April 2016
