Insights from Her Visit to RED Industries
We recently had the pleasure of hosting Alyne Freitas da Silva, the president of ABAS (Aerosol Association), at our facility. Alyne shared her thoughts and experiences from her visit, shedding light on her perspectives regarding sustainability and the aerosol industry. Here are some highlights from our conversation:
1. Why did you want to visit our facility? On January 17 and 18, 2024, ABAS attended the ADF Paris event. Considering that Paris is only two hours from London by train, it was a great opportunity to get to know BAMA and the industry that represents the world's 3rd largest aerosol producer. The subject of sustainability, especially post-consumer aerosol recycling, is a priority for ABAS. Therefore, seeing and understanding the structure of RED Industries could add to the sustainable growth strategy of the Brazilian aerosol industry.
2. What did you find most interesting on your visit? What I found most interesting was the experience of being inside the waste processing equipment. Even though the system is closed, seeing the facilities made it easier for me to understand the flow of the process.
3. What impression of RED Industries did you take away from your visit? I noticed a great concern for safety at every stage of the process, from the operators' activities to the explosion-safe system. It's contagious when you see the team's dedication and commitment to their activities, especially Chris Vasey and Dave Ashford. The welcome during the visit was impeccable, including a very pleasant lunch in a beautiful restaurant.
4. In your role as president, what strategic initiatives or advancements do you envision for ABAS incorporating any of the learnings from your recent visit? We are conducting a study in 2024 to evaluate the technical and economic viability and propose solutions for gradually increasing the aerosol recycling rate in Brazil over the next few years with the collaboration of five associations. It will be increasingly necessary to develop a structure for managing post-consumer aerosol waste in the country. Some Brazilian companies operating in this area should implement the stage of collecting and reusing propellant (butane and propane) to generate energy. Therefore, RED Industries can be a reference in the search for zero landfill waste, 100% recycling capability, and in the use of N2 during processing to mitigate safety risks.
5. What is your favourite memory of your UK trip (is it the ‘greasy spoon’ breakfast)? This is the most difficult question because I had so many good memories of my trip to the UK. All of the places I visited were very charming, and I love hearing the elegant British accent. But trying the local gastronomy won my heart, or rather my stomach, like the unique British breakfast, the classic fish and chips, and the tasty beers.
Alyne's visit provided valuable insights and reinforced the importance of international collaboration in advancing sustainability practices in the aerosol industry. We are grateful for her visit and look forward to continued partnership with ABAS in promoting environmental stewardship.
